Kwajalein Atoll Local Government (KALGOV) is taking significant steps to amend its Constitution to better align with evolving societal values, rights, and governance needs. Recognizing the necessity of adapting to these changes, KALGOV has committed to a comprehensive review and amendment process.

To spearhead this initiative, the KALGOV Council established the Jemen Ei Working Committee, a diverse body representing key community stakeholders. The Committee is composed of the following members:

1. Irojlaplap Michael Kabua, representing Manit (Culture);
2. Kawa Jatios, representing the Kwajalein Community;
3. Kiorong Sam, representing the Women’s Organization;
4. Ben Jerry Jacklick, representing the KALGOV Council;
5. Jack Akeang, representing the Churches; and
6. Jesse Riketa, representing Kwajalein Alabs.

The Jemen Ei Working Committee was tasked with identifying and evaluating amendment proposals. Through extensive public consultations and community engagement, the Committee compiled nine key proposals reflecting the concerns, aspirations, and support of the people of Kwajalein Atoll. Before presenting these proposals to the KALGOV Council for review and consideration, the Committee awaits the final consultation with few communities around Kwajalein and one with Kwajalein people on Majuro Atoll.

This initiative underscores KALGOV’s dedication to ensuring that its Constitution remains relevant and reflective of the needs of its people. The Jemen Ei Working Committee remains steadfast in its commitment to facilitating a transparent and inclusive amendment process, ensuring that the voices of the community are heard and respected.

As the amendment process moves forward, KALGOV continues to encourage public participation, reinforcing the principle that governance should evolve in step with the aspirations of the people it serves.
